The FIT-ACER checklist builds on Atul Gawande’s best-selling book, “The Checklist Manifesto”, which documents how hospitals are learning from pilot checklists to improve human reliability for doctors, nurses, and technicians in operating rooms.
The acronym, FIT-ACER, is to make the steps easy to remember. The acronym arose from keywords in the groupings of essential steps, and had the added benefit that “FIT” was seen as a key aspect of being ready to do our work, while “ACE” was a reflection of our expertise in our technology.
