SAP BTP Series: The Architecture of SAP BTP

SAP’s Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) has been in the news for quite some time now. Here’s some key information related to SAP BTP and its architecture.

SAP BTP platform brings development, analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Integration & automation together as one unified platform.

SAP HANA Cloud Platform was introduced in May 2013 and later renamed to SAP Cloud Platform (SCP). In January 2021, the name was finally changed to SAP Business Technology Platform to echo its core purpose of serving industry business and values.

On a higher level, SAP BTP has four key components: Analytics, Application Development & Integration, Intelligent Technologies, and Database & Data Management.

Analytics

The SAP Analytics Cloud offering on SAP BTP can be used to collect data from your systems, data warehouses, and data lakes and integrate with different sources. You can identify the key drivers for your business performance, enable forecasting, and plan to boost your business capabilities.

Application Development & Integration

Innovative solutions or extensions of your current application can be built on a cloud platform, exposed through the SAP Fiori interface. Integrating SAP and non-SAP solutions on-premise and in the cloud helps you extend your SAP solutions. There are two innovative development environments in SAP BTP: Cloud Foundry, the open-source supporting several languages, and Neo, an SAP proprietary supporting only Java, HTML5, and HANA XS.

Intelligent Technologies

SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation, SAP IOT, SAP Conversational AI, and such services help identify repetitive business processes and induce automation to let business users easily focus on their core area. The low code/no Code approach further harnesses the power of different tools and technologies.

Database & Data Management

This includes all you need to store, process, read and render your system data. SAP HANA, SAP HANA Cloud, SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP Data Intelligence, SAP Data Services, SAP Master Data Governance, etc., contribute to this category.

Combining the above features with the flexible choice of major cloud platform and Integration with Legacy, SAP, and non-SAP systems paves the way for innovations with confidence for SAP BTP customers.

SAP BTP Service catalog

While the different BTP subscriptions and their differences are not discussed here, it is noteworthy to mention 90+ available services on the SAP BTP platform that forms the core of its service offerings.

To explore the available service catalog, you can navigate to SAP Discovery Center (https://discovery-center.cloud.sap/viewServices). Here, you can look at each service’s availability based on SAP BTP subscription, pricing, customer stories, and roadmap.
