Oracle Database@Google Cloud: The Trifecta for Cloud Success in 2024

Written by Paul Lewis | Oct 9, 2024 5:23:16 PM

In June 2024, Oracle and Google announced the Oracle Database@Google Cloud service offering: a huge step forward for organizations with heavy investments in Oracle seeking the transformative capabilities of cloud. Shortly after, we unveiled our strategic partnership with Oracle and Google Cloud, positioning ourselves as a key partner to support organizations in seamlessly migrating to Google Cloud and leveraging their data’s full potential.

We’ve learned much since the initial announcement, so let’s cover some of the details of the partnership and how Pythian is uniquely positioned to guide your cloud journey.

The trifecta for cloud success

What’s so important about this new partnership between Oracle and Google Cloud, with Pythian as your key implementation and consulting partner? It’s what our team is calling the trifecta for cloud success. Combining Oracle's unparalleled database expertise, Google Cloud's cutting-edge infrastructure, and Pythian's deep technical knowledge and migration capabilities is a catalyst for transformation. We’re excited how it's going to open up incredible possibilities for enterprises across numerous industries.

Key solutions of the partnership

Let's break down this partnership and look at what it really means for you and your organization. There are four key solutions that I'm particularly excited about:

  1. Bare Metal Solution: While not new, this option remains significant. It allows customers with demanding Oracle RAC databases to deploy Oracle on Google Cloud infrastructure, providing a familiar Oracle environment within the Google Cloud ecosystem.
  2. Oracle on Google Compute Engine (GCE) and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE): This new offering enables customers to run Oracle databases and applications on Google Cloud while bringing their own licenses. It's a crucial feature for organizations seeking flexibility in their cloud Oracle Database deployments.
  3. Cross-Cloud Interconnect: Think of this as a high-speed highway between Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Google Cloud. This interconnect facilitates seamless data transfer and workload migration between the two platforms. Organizations should see enhanced overall efficiency.
  4. Oracle Database@Google Cloud: This is the crown jewel of the partnership. Launched in September 2024, it allows you to deploy the latest Oracle database services, including Autonomous Database and Exadata RAC, directly in Google Cloud datacenters running on OCI Exadata hardware. I honestly see this as the best of both worlds.

Benefits for customers

These four solutions might sound great on paper, but what’s the business value? What are the clear benefits of Oracle, Google Cloud, and Pythian:

  • Flexibility: You'll have the freedom to choose where you want your Oracle workloads to run – on-premises, in OCI, or Google Cloud. It's all about what works best for your organization.
  • Cost Optimization: Remember that high-speed highway I mentioned? It eliminates data transfer charges between OCI and Google Cloud. That's going to significantly reduce your migration and operational costs.
  • Innovation Acceleration: By bringing Oracle databases closer to Google Cloud's AI and analytics capabilities, you'll be able to drive your innovation initiatives forward at a pace you've never experienced before.

Pythian's role in the partnership

Where does Pythian fit into all of this? Our team aren’t passive observers in this partnership. Our unique position as a long-standing partner of both Oracle and Google Cloud means we're ideally suited to help you make the most of this new partnership.

We bring to the table 27 years of Oracle experience, over a decade of collaboration with Google Cloud (including multiple Partner of the Year awards), and a deep well of technical expertise in both Oracle and Google Cloud technologies. We also have proven migration frameworks and accelerators to ensure your transition is as smooth as possible.

As the third pillar in the trifecta, we’re like an extension of your team helping you accelerate your cloud adoption strategy.
