Driving Enterprise Innovation: Warner Chaves on Oracle-Google Cloud Collaboration

Written by Warner Chaves | Jun 19, 2024 6:04:34 PM

In part 1 of our blog series, we discussed how the new Oracle-Google Cloud partnership is still making waves, integrating Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) database services and high-speed network interconnectivity with Google Cloud. Ultimately, this will simplifying cloud migration, multicloud deployment, and overall management.

On episode 78 of the Datascape podcast, Warner Chaves and some of Pythian’s Oracle ACEs—Aishwarya Kala, Nelson Calero, and Simon Pane—shared their insights on the announcement and what it means for customers.

Today, we’re exploring Principal Consultant Warner Chaves’s perspective and observations on the new announcement. Keep reading to uncover some of his key takeaways.

1. Ease of integration and reduction in friction for customers

“This partnership enables customers to use Oracle database and applications alongside Google Cloud's innovative platform and AI capabilities.”

Early in the podcast, Warner emphasizes that the partnership between Oracle and Google Cloud allows customers to leverage Oracle’s database solutions along with Google Cloud’s cutting-edge platform and AI capabilities. This ease of integration means that customers no longer have to deal with complex, labor-intensive migrations and can instead enjoy a smoother, more seamless integration process. This reduction in friction leads to quicker deployment times and allows businesses to focus on innovation (rather than struggling with technical barriers.)

Why does it matter? The partnership highlighted that Google Cloud will offer Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) database services with high-speed network interconnect. This integration simplifies cloud migration and management for customers, reducing friction significantly. This allows enterprises to accelerate their application migrations and modernization efforts, leading to quicker deployment times and enabling businesses to focus on innovation.

2. Potential customer cost savings

“I believe it’s in the press release that the interconnect will not charge you for data transfer. So that's a big deal, of course, because it's to move data back and forth between the two clouds.”

Warner also pointed out that one of the significant benefits of this partnership is the elimination of data transfer charges between Oracle and Google Cloud. Traditionally, moving data between different cloud platforms can incur substantial costs—a major concern for organizations managing large data volumes. By removing these charges, migrations are more cost-effective for companies to operate a multi-cloud environment.

Why does it matter? Cost savings and avoidance are priorities for nearly every organization. Oracle Interconnect for Google Cloud will allow customers to deploy general-purpose workloads without cross-cloud data transfer charges. This financial flexibility helps companies reallocate their budgets to other critical areas such as development, research, or scaling their business operations.

3. Enhancements to operational efficiency

“Deploy Google Cloud at the same time because of the interconnect or potentially could just go straight to Google Cloud and use the Oracle database.”

Warner mentioned that the interconnectivity between Oracle and Google Cloud allows for deploying Google Cloud while using Oracle databases (or even directly using Oracle databases on Google Cloud.) This flexibility in deployment options means businesses can choose the best architecture for their needs without being locked into a single cloud provider. The partnership provides a more agile and efficient data estate infrastructure, enabling businesses to scale and adapt quickly to market demands.

Why does it matter? Enhanced operational efficiency translates to better performance and reliability for business applications. The Oracle Database@Google Cloud offering provides customers direct access to Oracle database services running on OCI and deployed in Google Cloud datacenters. This setup ensures high database and network performance, allowing businesses to scale and adapt quickly to market demands.

4. Strategic advantages for enterprises

“Where Google has something that Oracle might want, right? This synergy can be very strategic for enterprises looking to optimize their multi-cloud strategy.”

Warner touches on the strategic synergy between Oracle and Google Cloud, especially with Google's leadership in AI and ML. This partnership allows enterprises to leverage Google's superior AI and ML capabilities alongside Oracle's comprehensive database solutions. By combining these strengths, businesses can drive innovation and gain deeper insights from their data.

Why does it matter? Strategic advantages are crucial for enterprises looking to innovate. The partnership combines Google Cloud's superior AI and ML capabilities with Oracle's comprehensive database solutions, setting a strong foundation for businesses to drive innovation and gain deeper insights from their data. Both companies will jointly go-to-market with Oracle Database@Google Cloud, benefiting enterprises globally and across multiple industries including financial services, healthcare, retail, and manufacturing. Our customers can tap into this synergy and be rewarded with more comprehensive and advanced data analytics, cloud, and AI solutions.
